ABOUT US

What About Rural Health

What About Rural Health?™️ (WARH?) is a dynamic health communications brand powered by a global network of dedicated volunteers. As a global voice designed to spark meaningful conversations and resource-sharing to elevate rural health on the global agenda.

With over 3.4 billion people living in underserved rural communities worldwide—many facing alarming inequities in healthcare access—up to 60% lack essential services (WHO, 2023).

As a hub of rural health enthusiasts, policymakers, practitioners, and researchers, WARH? promotes engagement, knowledge exchange, and solution-driven collaborations to improve healthcare delivery in limited-resource and hard-to-reach communities.

Founded with a vision to address health disparities in rural communities globally, What About Rural Health?™️ (WARH) is committed to mirroring the intersectional issues ranging from education to climate, environmental, cultural sensitivity, technology, innovation, and more within rural health from a global perspective—driving conversations and actions that place rural health at the forefront of global health discourse.

Our approach to rural health will cover more than just healthcare access; we adopt digital advocacy, communication, research, community engagement, and knowledge-sharing, to bring visibility to the multifaceted issues creating rural health challenges while promoting learning and best practices that drive sustainable healthcare actions. Furthermore, WARH? explores rural health practices in developing economies and shares practical insights that can inspire innovative changes even in wealthier regions. By examining the interconnectedness of urban and rural health issues, we highlight why understanding diseases and other public health issues from a rural perspective is critical to improving global public health efforts.

At What About Rural Health?, we share key learnings from rural healthcare to strengthen global health systems. By learning what works and what doesn’t, we uncover solutions that drive better health outcomes for everyone. Through education and community awareness, we empower rural communities, build stronger and healthier systems, and advocate for a healthier future for all.

Why Rural Health?

The rural-urban divide in healthcare is vast, with rural communities facing persistent challenges such as inadequate health facilities, limited access to skilled health professionals, and a lack of essential medical supplies. These gaps result in poor health outcomes, preventable deaths, and a lack of opportunities for rural populations to live healthy lives.

As the rural population continues to grow, the need for action becomes eminent. At WARH? We believe that rural health is not a niche issue, but rather a global health concern, and addressing them, especially in low-income communities, is critical for global health security. Therefore, we must work together, across all sectors with a common goal, to ensure that everyone, regardless of where they live, has access to the healthcare they deserve.
