Convicted Serial Fraudster, Amusa Abiodun Gets N40m Bail

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of a Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, has granted a convicted internet fraudster, Amusa Azeez Abiodun, bail in the sum of forty million naira.

The judge gave the ruling shortly after entertaining submission from counsels, asking him to provide two sureties in like sum.

Justice Taiwo noted that one of the sureties must be a land owner in Lagos while another surety must be a close relative to the applicant, be it father, brother or brother-in-law.

During argument for bail, counsel to the the defendant, Mr. Olanrewaju Ajanaku urged the court to grant his client bail promising to ensure his presence in court for trial.

Mr. Ajanaku assured that his client won’t be a flight risk as he claimed the defendant’s father-in-law, one retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, (AIG) Bello has a building worth over ninety million naira and is in court to stand for him.

However, EFCC Counsel, Samuel Daji who opposed the bail application urged the court for an accelerated trial on the grounds that the defendant had been convicted for committing similar offence of cyber crime.

He argued that barely a year, Amusa Abiodun had returned to the same offence he was convicted for.

Meanwhile during arraignments, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

He denied alleged retainment of the control of the sum of N88,187,773.64k in his First Bank account 3085787943, which were proceeds of various internet and cyber crimes amongst other allegations.
