Internet Influencer Arraigned Over Alleged N110m Theft

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned a social media activist, Portia Anthony Emilia and her company, Savanah Crest Investment Limited before a Lagos Special Offences Court, in Ikeja over allegation of N110m Fraud.

Appearing before Justice Abike Fadipe court, the commission filed six count charges against the defendants which borders on felony, to wit stealing. ,

The charge reads: “The defendant with intent to defraud, fraudulently obtained the sum of one hundred and ten million naira from one Racheal Akintola and dishonestly converted to personal use.”

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the six count charges.

Upon the plea of not guilty of the defendants, EFCC Counsel, Innocent Akanno, asked for a date for trial and order for the defendant to be remanded pending bail perfection.

In a counter reaction, defence counsel, Balogun informed the court that they have a bail application and same as been served on the prosecutor.

Prosecuting counsel affirms service and subsequently the court grants him approval to move the bail application.

In moving the bail application, Balogun informed the court that she is not a flight risk as her passport is with the Commission and she is on the path of settlement

Reacting, EFCC Counsel, Akanwo who didn’t oppose the bail application urged the court to grant her a condition that would ensure she didn’t jump bail.

In her ruling, Justice Fadipe noted that the court is convinced that the defendants is not flight risk, having not jump administrative bail at the Commission.

Justice Fadipe, thereafter, granted her bail in the sum of ten million naira with a surety who must be a relative, a bank insurance of ten million naira and a landed property.

Adjourning for trial till September 23, the judge ordered that the defendant be remanded at the correctional center pending the perfection of her bail conditions.
