Chinese, Frank Geng-Quangrong Sentence To Death By Hanging For Killing Nigerian Girlfriend

The Kano State High Court sentenced Chinese national Frank Geng-Quangrong, to death by hanging for stabbing his Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Sani.

Geng-Quangrong, a resident of Kano Railway Quarters, was charged with culpable homicide on a one-count charge.

In his judgment, Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, adding that “the defendant’s testimony is inconsistent and I now find him guilty.”

According to the prosecution’s counsel, Haruna Dederi, the convict committed the offence at Janbulo Quarters Kano on September 16, 2022.

His statement indicated that the deceased was stabbed with a knife in her house located in Janbulo Quarters, Kano, at about 9 pm on the same date.

The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, where she was confirmed dead on arrival by a doctor.

In response to the charge, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Four exhibits were presented by the prosecution during the trial to prove their case against the defendant.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravenes the provisions of Section 221(b) of the Penal Code.

The defence counsel, Muhummad Dan’azumi, presented the defendant to defend himself and one other witness, who tendered five exhibits.

Dan’azumi urged the court to recommend the defendant for a prerogative of mercy under Section 313 of ACJL.

In his testimony, the accused, Frank said, “I didn’t kill Ummulkhulsum intentionally but stabbed her in self-defence after she grabbed my testicles.”

He pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy in its judgment.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the verdict, the victim’s mother, Hajiya Fatima Zubairu, expressed satisfaction with the judge’s death sentence, acknowledging that it will serve as a deterrent in the future for anyone who takes the law into his hands.
