Chrisland School: Lagos Official Confirms Whitney Went To Hospital Before Inter-House Sports

A Deputy Director with the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr Jubril Yakubu, confirmed to a Lagos High Court in Ikeja that the late Whitney Adeniran visited the hospital on January 20, 2023.

He also said that Whitney Adeniran, a student of Chrisland School, Opebi, participated in the inter-house sports on February 1, 7, and 9, but opted out of the activities on the day of the inter-house sports.

Yakubu confirmed to the court that Whitney was not forced by the school to participate and also stated that emergency measures were not within his purview.

He mentioned that nurses at the inter-house sports should be part of emergency preparedness and not just for emergencies, and also had the competence and authority to speak on emergency signals.

Yakubu revealed that he did not know the actual number of schools in District Six as of December 31, 2023, but was responsible for more than 1,722 schools approved by the Ministry of Education.

He stated that he did not know the exact numbers of the schools within District Six and deferred this to the Ministry of Education, emphasizing his role in social services and competence to speak about District Six.

He also mentioned that he did not know the exact number of students subject to social risk exposure in District Six, but each school should have a designated safeguarding and child protection officer appointed among the staff.

He further added that Mrs. Tawa Sodiq, a school social officer in District Six, reports to him.

The trial Justice Ogala discharged the witness and adjourned the case to June 13 for continuation of the trial.
