Court Nullify Additional Emirates In Kano

Kano State high court has nullified the creation of four additional emirates and their first-class Emirs by the state government.

The presiding jugde, Justice Usman Naaba  said the Kano State House of Assembly had violated the provision of Section 101 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which allows the assembly to make laws.

He then declared the law creating the emirates null and void, saying the petition for the creation of the emirate was faulty.

Speaking to newsmen after the judgement, the counsel to the state government, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ibrahim Mukhtar said they would analyse the judgement and take the next line of action.

On his part, counsel to the plaintiff, Mr. Maliki Umar Kuliya expressed satisfaction, saying the judgement was passed because the state government did not follow due process in enacting the law on 6,7 and 8th May, 2019

The state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had assented to the law establishing the emirates and appointment of the new emirs of Bichi, Karaye, Gaya and Rano.

But the law was challenged by the then member representing Gwarzo in the Kano State House of Assembly, Rabi’u Saleh Gwarzo for lack of merit.
