Drug Cartel Allegations: NDLEA Institute Charges Against Abba Kyari

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has instituted charges against the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Abba Kyari before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The other Defendants in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/57/2022, were four members of the Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT, ACP Sunday J. Ubia, ASP Bawa James, Insp. Simon Agirigba and Insp. John Nuhu, as well as two alleged drug traffickers that were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne.

The anti drug agency filed eight count charges against all the defendants

In the charge filed among others, the Federal Government alleged that DCP Abba Kyari, ACP Sunday  Ubua, ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirgba and Inspector John Nuhu, had on the 19th to 25th of January, this year, at the office of Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Intelligence Response Team, Abuja, conspired among themselves with ASP John Umoru, now at large, to deal in 17.55kilogrammes of cocaine and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 14(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, CAP 30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The charge was endorsed by the Director, Prosecution and Legal Services, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Abuja, Mr. Joseph Sunday.

Barely 24 hours after the NDLEA entered the charge against them, the Attorneys-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, okayed request for Kyari who hitherto headed the Police IRT, to be extradited to the United States of America, USA, to face trial over his alleged involvement with an internet fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, popularly known as Hussipuppi.

Government’s approval was made known by Abubakar Malami (SAN) when he filed an application before the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja for Kyari’s extradition.

The application marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/249/2022 was filed under the Extradition Act.

The AGF said the application followed a request by the Diplomatic Representative of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja.
