Two Brothers Get N500k Bail Over Assaulting Police Officer

A Lagos Chief Magistrate Court in Ikeja has granted two brothers bail in the sum of five hundred thousand naira with two sureties over allegations of assault.

The two brothers Rilwan and Rasheed Shonde, were arraigned before Magistrate R.A Alejo on three count charges which borders on conspiracy, breach of peace, and assault.

Magistrate Alejo said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Police alleged that the two brothers and others still at large assaulted a police officer on September 3 at Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State

The police Counsel, Sgt Olasunkanmi Adejumola, told the court that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by fighting in the public and assaulting Insp Abayomi Ogunlusi.

Sgt Adejumola said that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 168, 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

He noted that section 173 carries three years’ imprisonment for assault.

The case has been adjourned till October 10.
